bust a name logoOnce you’ve settled on the topic you will blog about – you will want to put serious thought into your domain name.

Some experts say your domain name should be the name of your site and should remain as short and simple as possible so people will remember it easier. A memorable name translates into less time spent hunting down your blog.

While I tend to agree with that theory, I don’t believe it’s one of those rules of the web that’s set in stone. I’m familiar with several blogs who have a domain name that is different than their blogs title and some domains that are long in length but are easy to read.

If in doubt, ask a few friends or relatives to help narrow down your decision.

I recommend you begin with a list of keywords your blog will focus on. Let’s say hypothetically you will be blogging about the weather. If your blog has the unique focus of electrical storms or perhaps a focus on tornado alley – you can list those as possibilities to be included in the name of your blog.

Once you have created your list of words, I recommend you take your list and visit Bust a Name – one of my favorite tools on the web.

You can simply type in all the keywords you’d like to consider for your domain name in the “Word Combiner” section to create your “List of Words.” From that list, Bust a Name will automatically generate a list of available domain names.

The list of available domain names then allows you to sort in order, alphabetically, readability, syllables or length. This will help narrow down the list you then move to the “Save Domains for Review” section from which you’ll be able to make your final selection and purchase.

Bust a Name offers competitive pricing and domains via Go Daddy so you won’t be losing anything by making your purchase through them.

My Comment Commitment: If you leave an approved comment on any of my posts, I will visit your blog and “share it” in some way whether on StumbleUpon, Twitter or Facebook depending on if I can find a nice fit.
