Wordpress Archives

WordPress is the most used blog/website design interface site today, and for good reason. Not only is the site easy to use, even for those with no experience in web design, but it also provides for seemingly endless possibilities when it comes to customizing your site’s design. Using WordPress, you can create a site that is highly interactive and also good looking. Here are some suggestions for making your WordPress site beautiful, while keeping style and functionality in mind:

Sliders. Sliders are a way of displaying pictures on your site. Instead of being displayed in gallery or thumbnail format, the images slide to one side or the other, to reveal the new image. If you want to add sliders to your site, try a WordPress plugin like slidedeck.com.

Images. When web surfers land on a site that is packed with text, all they see is a lot of work ahead of them. Break up your text using images in order to enhance your site’s appearance and “feel,” so that you can hang on to those site visitors.

Icons. Icons are those little images that add personality to a page, and that also serve to visually organize the information on your site. A quick Internet search for icons will return a number of free sources for icons that you can use to spruce up your site.

Widgets. Widgets are basically just plugins that you can add to your WordPress site, which can encompass any of a number of cool interactive gadgets, from social media buttons to tag clouds. They are a great way to organize your site, make it more functional, and add to its aesthetic appeal. Most of WordPress templates include the option to add widgets in the sidebar, header, footer, or more.

Videos. These days, studies show that more and more people are drawn to video before anything else when they are using the web. Therefore, it’s a great idea to add video to your WordPress site – not just to attract and keep more visitors, but also because it simply looks good on your site. There are a number of different ways you can add video to your site, but many people opt to install a plugin or embed videos using Youtube code.

As you can see, there are a number of things you can do to improve upon your WordPress site, when it comes to both functionality and beauty. Make your WordPress site the best it can be by employing these suggestions.

Blogging Platforms – Which is Best?

When it comes to blogging platforms, perhaps I’m a bit biased, but I think the top two are Blogger and WordPress.

I’ve been asked several times which platform I prefer and further, I’m asked for all the why’s and why not’s of each. I realized I was missing a large opportunity to share this information and encourage other people to share their views and preferences as well.

When it comes to comparing BLOGGER and WORDPRESS and the reason I choose to use both platforms, I have to admit affordability is the driving factor of why I still have some blogs on Blogger.

I can’t exactly justify moving a Blogger blog to a hosted domain when I don’t feel it would be able to support itself. I’m not trying to be greedy by any means, but I would at least like for a blog to be able to pay for it’s own existence.

There are some topics I blog just for the sake of blogging. I like it that way.

Free blog platforms are a great way to test the waters. By testing the waters with Blogger, I learned the topics I was most passionate about and which would most likely sustain longevity.

Most people who explore becoming a blogger will realize within 6 months if they have what it takes to keep a blog going or whether they should explore another topic or throw in the towel altogether.

I’ve also felt at times that Blogger blogs carry a sort of stigma. Sure there are some that have made it to the big time by way of Blogger, but for a Blogger blog to really hit it big, I think it’s rare.

For the sake of discussion, I’d like to focus on Blogger and WordPress.

Story Problem:

A friend comes to you and wants to start blogging. They have their topic, title and name picked out. They’re ready to start but need to choose a platform – What do you tell them and why?
