Money Doesn’t Grow on Blog Trees
Money doesn’t grow on blog trees. Money does however, come from the fruit those blog trees produce.
Instead of me telling you where the money is to be found on the internet (which I have done before, but only a few heard what I was saying), I’m going to propose a bit of a project to get all our minds working.
After reading several of my favorite blogs this morning, I realized one thing, most everyone is telling how to make the money once you decide on your niche, but so few are telling you how to arrive at the profitable niche in the first place.
With so many blogs about blogging making their way onto the scene, I can only venture to guess that many think that’s where the money is made. If that’s what you’re thinking – STOP! Right now! It’s not where the money is made. In fact, my blogs about blogging generate less than 5% of my entire monthly revenue each month.
Go back to the drawing table, put together some ideas of what you think might be a profitable niche and share those ideas with us. In exchange, I’m hoping you’ll get enough feedback from myself and my readers, that you can establish a nice profitable niche for yourself.
Can you tell the difference between the people who are blogging for profit and those who are blogging for passion?
Perhaps there are some who are blogging for passion that happened to turn into profit?
So here’s a thought –
If money comes from the fruit that blogs produce, what kind of fruit will you be marketing?
Where do YOU think the profitable niches are?

I’ve been pondering this myself. Why am I blogging? Which of my blogs can be profitable? When I was blogging for a blogging network, I didn’t have to be the sole person building traffic and made a fairly good supplemental income from it. In 2012, I want to see what I can do incomewise with my blog or blogs and determine where I should spend my time.
It seems, as you say, that many of the high profile bloggers blog about techie/social media stuff. Some are into celebrity gossip. Those aren’t my line, so I’m pondering on other areas.
Right now, I’m using a blog for promotion of a book I’m compiling for our town’s 250th anniversary. It won’t be of worldwide interest, but will be useful for my purposes.
I’ll be getting back to you, Gayla.

Given all the recent changes at Google – building a great site about something you are passionate about seems to be the path to success.
If a niche relates well to products that people want to buy or that they are searching for on the internet – it probably can be made into a profitable one.
However, as I have learned, it doesn’t happen over night – and lots of sweat equity is required.
I have started and abandoned so many mediocre sites because my heart wasn’t in it.
Hopefully this time around – my passion will lead to a truly outstanding and successful site.

One of these days I’ll have to list all the blogs I’ve started and abandoned. But you are so right – if you can find a niche that provides a scope of products that people are searching for, it can be made into a profitable one.
Good luck with finding your true passion.

Mea if you ever want to brainstorm ideas, I’m here for you. I’d love to help you ponder and find the direction you wish to and should be going. It’s so easy for me to be on the outside looking in and instructing – my mind is full of information I’ve gathered, classes I’ve taken – things I’ve learned. I’d love to share it
