Proof People Will Click Anything
I’m quite the nervous ninny when anyone in my family asks to use my computer. Mostly because I know they don’t read things as thoroughly as I do.
Just the other evening, one of my lovely family members pointed out that someone had a question regarding an item on eBay. I went to the computer, ran my mouse over the link and pointed out to them that the link didn’t have a thing to do with eBay.
Spam and hackers are getting more intelligent (for lack of a better word) in the way they are getting into our systems, which makes anyone as “control freakish” as me just a wee bit nervous and then some.
As if that weren’t enough…I found this rather interesting article this morning that adds credibility to my techno anxiety.
Hundreds Click on ‘Click Here to Get Infected’ Ad
Either these were angry girlfriends trying to sabotage a cheating boyfriends computer or it was just people doing what they do best on the internet — clicking any dang thing!
Maybe I am considered extreme when it comes to the safety of my computer. My computer IS my entire livelihood! I have to wonder though, am I alone?
How many of you actually take the time to mouse over links to see if they truly are from the location they claim?
What are some other nervous or compulsive habits you have where your computer is concerned?
